Overview

Cooke City is a quaint little town positioned in the great Beartooth Mountains, near Yellowstone National Park. Because of it’s location, this town is the hub for several recreational activities, as well as some of America’s most famous attractions. 

Location

Cooke City MT is situated at the foot of the Beartooth Mountains in the Lamar Valley, and just miles from the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

Cooke City has several lodges, cabins and B&Bs located in and out-of-town. Most lodging in the area offers a rustic feel in congruence with traditional Montana style. Hungry? Cooke City boasts a variety of amazing restaurants. Whether you want BBQ or gourmet grub, visit a locally owned restaurant along Main Street.

Activities

Because of it’s location in the Beartooth Mountains, Cooke City is a recreationalists paradise. The summer months bring various options for camping, fishing, hiking and wildlife viewing. In the winter, Cooke City is famous for it’s snowmobiling—offering lots of wilderness to explore and lots of snow! 

Attractions

Cooke City is located only a few miles north Yellowstone National Park, America’s first national park with several thrilling natural attractions including geothermal geysers and cacading waterfalls. The Beartooth Scenic Highway, dubbed as one of the “most scenic drives in America” is also located near Cooke City.

Getting Here

Getting to Cooke City will be among the most enjoyable parts of your trip. The drive to Cooke City takes visitors along the Beartooth Scenic Highway, allowing visitors breathtaking views of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. To get to Cooke City from Red Lodge, follow Highway 212 south for 66 miles.
