Moose are huge – males weighing as much as 1,000 pounds and females weighing up to 800 pounds. Only the males have antlers that are gigantic, flat and dish shaped. They are so gigantic that often times the male moose's antlers can reach 6 feet from tip to tip. In addition, this expanse of antler grows in one year. Moose shed their antlers each winter.

Moose eat primarily underwater vegetation. Therefore, they hang out in wetlands, meadows and marshy areas. Watch for them when traveling through these areas. When they are eating, they often put their heads underwater and have been known to keep their heads underwater for nearly three minutes. And for their size, they are good swimmers.

If you spot a moose and want to take a picture, please be extremely cautious. Do not get very close. Males are very aggressive and females are very protective of their young. Moose are dangerous and unpredictable. Always observe them from a safe distance and if you are fishing, keep an eye out for them.
