Suitable for family outings or solo adventures, the Red Lodge Nordic Center provides a wonderful and laid-back opportunity to experience winter in Montana.

Located three miles west of Red Lodge, at the base of the Beartooth Mountains, the Red Lodge Nordic Center offers 15 kilometers of groomed trails. You'll tour through aspens, meadows, and gentle rolling hills--don't forget to bring your camera. Four kilometers of trails are rated easy, seven are more difficult, and the other four are rated most difficult. The trails are open from about November 30th to March 30th, and hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Trails are open to classic crosscountry skiing as well as skate skiing and snowshoeing. If you decide to snowshoe on the groomed trails, be courteous and do not walk in the ski tracks. A users fee is charged to keep trails maintained and groomed each week. Don't worry if you are a beginner or if you don't have your own gear. Lessons and equipment rentals are available, making learning a new sport easy an convenient.

On full moon nights, many groups gather for moonlight skiing. This is a fun event for groups of friends or family. Wear warm clothes and bring a thermos of hot chocolate or tea. On clear nights, the moon is so bright that you cast a shadow on the snow, and you do not need to bring a headlamp.

To get to Red Lodge Nordic Center, follow Highway 78 west to the one mile marker, turn left, and follow Fox Road for two more miles.
