Malta holds off Breakers, Crippen takes state

Malta holds off Breakers, Crippen takes state

BILLINGS - The M-Ettes golf team held a 12 shot lead after Tuesday's opening round of the State B golf tournament.  Seemed fairly comfortable going into Wednesday's final round, however the Breakers of Missoula Loyola Sacred Heart came much closer to breaking the hearts of Malta than most would have anticipated.

Loyola shot a tournament best 328 as a team Wednesday, but still fell 5 shots short of Malta's overall team score.

It wasn't all bad for the Breakers as Maggie Crippen continued her unbelievable run of success as she shot 1 under for the tourney to cruise to another state title, 7 strokes ahead of Columbus' Morgan Scott.

Maggie's little sister Sadie shot a 74 Wednesday to climb the leaderboard to finish 4th while Townsend's Dexter Bailey had a fantastic round of 73 to take home 3rd.

Malta had 4 in the top 14 with stellar performances from Lauren Buechler (8), Kori Kindle (9), McKenna Levesque (11), and Paige Heiken (14).

Two Billings house fires total $70,000 damage

BILLINGS - Billings fire crews responded to two separate house fires Wednesday night - totalling about $70,000 in damages.

The first call came in about 5:30 p.m. to a home at 24 Redrock Drive.  The blaze caused major damage to the house.  Deputy Fire Marshal, Jeff McCullough, says an electrical malfunction in the window air conditioner started the fire.  Fire and smoke damages total about $30,000. The home was not occupied.

A second house fire called in about 7:45 p.m. caused moderate damage to a house at 4524 Murphy Avenue.  McCullough says fire and smoke damages are estimated about $40,000.  The home was also not occupied.  The cause of that fire is currently classified as undetermined.
