Peaks to Prairie Mountain Bike Race
Every year the Yellowstone Valley Cycling Club puts on the Peaks to Prairie race on the third Sunday in April. The triathlon and duathlon connect the Beartooth Mountains in Red Lodge, Montana to the ranch and farm lands of Laurel, Montana to the waters of the Yellowstone in Billings, Montana.
The traditional triathlon includes an 8.8 mile run, a 43 mile bike, and a 22 mile paddle along the Yellowstone River. A duathlon was added to the event to create more competition as paddlers are sometimes hard to find for the event. The new duathlon consists of a 9 mile run, a 60 mile bike, and than a 5.5 mile run. The race begins just south of Red Lodge, Montana in the Beartooth Mountain Range and travels north through Red Lodge and then through ranches and farms to Riverside Park and then along the Yellowstone River to Coulson Park. The park welcomes racers to enjoy music, food, and drink at its victory celebration.
