Montana 1830s Encampment

In 1836 and 1837, during the fur trade era of the west, trappers Joe Meek and Jim Bridger made camp here with 60 other men. A battle with the Blackfeet Indians resulted in the death of one trapper by the name of Howel. His survivors named the camp in his honor. Today history addicts gather every June at this encampment to reenact the Mountain Man Rendezvous. The event is open to the public from 10am to 6pm daily and located just east of Rockvale, Montana. Amenities are offered to visitors like firewood, water, bathroom facilities, and parking.

Come see a living history with authentic dress, food, entertainment, mock battle, and art. Join others in authentic clothing contests and great music. Historians offer seminars, exhibits, and demonstrations every day. Make sure to check out the many goods for sale such as beadwork, hunting knives and sheaths, hand made clothing, and beautiful wooden furniture. Bring the whole family to this fun filled event in Montana.

It looks like you may have missed it this time around.
