The Beartooth section of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness is characterized by huge, treeless plateaus, and is peppered with many glacial lakes. The Absarokas in contrast, bear more vegetation with their dense forests and vast meadows. With more plant life, the Absarokas are home to more wildlife than the harsh and rocky Beartooths. Bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, moose, deer, grizzly, bears, and black bears are among the many animals who call the Absarokas home.
A vast wilderness can be intimidating to explore on your own. There are many guiding and outfitting services set up to take you on various adventures from hunting, to fishing, to rock climbing. Outfitters are equipped to take you out for a day or for an entire season.
Outfitters are located in nearby towns such as Cody, Red Lodge, Cooke City, and Bozeman.
