Carbon County, Montana

Carbon County is situated in the central and southern most part of Montana, being created in the nineteenth century. It has varied scenic towns and exceptional access to an array of activities, landscapes and things to do and see. It is a peaceful haven for many tourists that are looking for less crowded areas to enjoy outdoor pursuits and traditional country hospitality.

Carbon County sits in central/southern Montana, covering some two thousand miles squared. It was established in the late nineteenth century from the hard working efforts of just over one hundred and fifty homesteading settlers. It is home to a select handful of picturesque and friendly towns, including Roscoe, Luther, Roberts, Boyd, Joliet, Silesia, Edgar, Fromberg, Bridger, Belfry, Bearcreek and Red Lodge (the county capital). It is surrounded by mountainous peaks, including the stunning Beartooth and Pryor mountains, as well as Granite Peak. Varied rivers flow through the county, including the Yellowstone and Big Horn.

Today the area is still as rural as it was during the pioneering days with cattle ranching and agriculture being its strong stays. Tourism is growing, with plenty to do and see within each town and in the surrounding area. Popular outdoor activities include visits to Yellowstone National Park and the Custer National Forest, wildlife watching, bird watching, hunting, golfing, skiing, camping, hiking and scenic driving.
